Once a chanukiyah is no longer going to be used it may be thrown away. The oil, wicks, and candles are the items used for the Chanukah mitzvah, elevating them - and not the chanukiyah itself - to the point that great care should be used before disposing of them.
Before tossing a chanukiyah into the recycling bin just because you have a new one, consider passing your once-loved chanukiyah to a friend who may not have a chanukiyah of her own or to a child who is eager to the mitzvah of lighting. Or use it as a centerpiece for your Chanukah party table.
